Landscape Architect (Hybrid)

At Browning Day, our portfolio spans a broad range of project types within civic, cultural, healthcare, higher education, hospitality, mixed-use, preservation and reuse, sports and wellness, and the workplace. Our success is based on the client's vision coming to life and includes a team of Architects, Interior Designers, Landscape Architects, Planners, and support staff who play a part in solving complex design problems. We are seeking a mid to senior-level Landscape Architect who will add their skills and creativity to our diverse projects.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • Incorporates and considers sustainable design solutions into all projects.
  • Executes the overarching design of a project per the Browning Day design process.
  • Impacts all phases of design, documentation, specifications, and construction administration.
  • Uses technical knowledge, communication, and coordination skills to meet project requirements.
  • Opportunities to mentor and direct the work of less-experienced staff.
  • Participates in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Supports project quality, schedules, and overall performance with the firm’s other disciplines.
  • Oversees communication with support staff, other disciplines, vendors, and contractors, as needed, to ensure coordination of information.
  • Provides regular status updates to the Project Manager and Studio Director and, when appropriate, the Principal-in-Charge.
  • Promotes innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetically pleasing, safe, and code compliant, while meeting the intended outcome of the project.
  • Maintains positive client relationships throughout the project.
  • Advises on design schedule, fee development, and consultant team makeup in conjunction with the Project Manager, as requested.
  • Oversees programming efforts, including due diligence, information gathering, site inventory and analysis of existing conditions, while also identifying opportunities and constraints.
  • Assists with documentation and timely distribution of all meeting notes to the project team.
  • Selects and specifies appropriate materials and associated details.
  • Provides quality-focused mentorship and feedback during each phase of the project. 
  • Participates in the construction administration phase by responding to RFIs, ASIs, and shop drawings, and being involved in field site reviews and reports.
  • Implements Browning Day standards for all project deliverables and processes.
  • Responsibilities may vary based on experience, interests, and business needs.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven ability to achieve the following:

    • Prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and provide high-quality results.
    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
  • Meet and manage stated project schedules and budgets.
  • An advanced knowledge of the following:
    • All zoning codes, ADA/FHA/accessibility requirements, and applicable codes pertaining to site design considerations.
    • Site finishes, lighting, and signage required to carry out the design intent.
    • Design principles involved in the development of technical plans, drawings, models, industry best practices, design techniques, trends, construction methodology, material application, and manufacturer appropriateness
  • Prefer a proficient level of experience in the following:
    • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Financial tracking software (Deltek Vantagepoint)
    • Preferred knowledge of Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher 
    • SketchUp, AutoCAD, and 3D rendering software (Lumion)
  • Satisfactory background screening.
  • A Licensed Landscape Architect (or working toward licensure in agreed timeline).
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field to Landscape Architecture is required.
  • Master’s degree or comparable work experience is a plus.
  • Experience in master planning and urban design is a plus.
  • Typical professional experience of 7-10+ years
